Job Summary
The Engineer – Fiber To The Home & Business Plan & Design will report to the Manager, FTTH & FTTB Planning & Design. The role involves planning, designing, deploying, and maintaining fiber network infrastructure for homes and businesses, ensuring high availability, reliability, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver timely and high-quality Transmission Solutions using Fiber and GPON technology.
- Design resilient FTTH/B Transmission networks to meet short- and long-term business needs.
- Compile topology maps, Google Earth routes, and GIS schematics for fiber infrastructure.
- Ensure optimal utilization of fiber resources, materials, spares, and bandwidths within KPI targets.
- Prepare budget estimates and prioritize projects for CAPEX justifications.
- Review BOQs and cost reconciliation for FTTH, FTTB, and FTTx projects.
- Maintain accurate fiber infrastructure data in the Safaricom database.
- Identify and mitigate potential bottlenecks to guarantee uptime and service quality.
- Implement transmission standards aligned with best industry practices.
- Evaluate and adopt new technologies in fiber infrastructure.
- Define and assess test cases and acceptance criteria for new systems and services.
- Plan, review, and optimize network performance based on business requirements.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Telecommunications Engineering or a related field.
- 3 years of experience in fiber network planning and design, with at least 1 year in a busy telecommunications environment.
- Strong understanding of transmission infrastructure deployment lifecycle.
- Proficiency in transport/data communication planning, design, and optimization tools.
- Experience translating business/customer needs into technical requirements.
- Ability to define test cases and acceptance criteria based on user requirements.
- Experience in assessing the effectiveness of tests and testing tools.
